How to use Remove EXIF Data
- Drop the photos you want to clean
- Choose whether to keep the color profile
- Click Remove metadata and download the clean copies
About this tool
For JPG and PNG, the tool removes metadata blocks (EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comments and text chunks) directly from the file, so image quality is exactly the same and the file usually gets a little smaller. Other formats, such as HEIC and WebP, are re-encoded, which also drops all metadata.
The orientation tag is applied before removal for JPGs that need it, so photos don’t end up sideways.
Frequently asked questions
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
Not for JPG and PNG: only metadata is deleted and the image data is copied unchanged. Other formats are re-saved at high quality.
What exactly is removed?
Camera make and model, serial numbers, date and time, GPS location, software, thumbnails, XMP/IPTC captions and comments.
What is the color profile option?
Some photos include an ICC color profile that keeps colors accurate. It contains no personal data, so it is kept by default.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertBrightly processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent over the network, and the files disappear when you close the tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
